Coaching Staff
Owner/CEO/Coach Randy Skierka
Coach Skierka started Thunder Athletics in 2012 to help student/athletes succeed on and off the court. He has been coaching since 1996 at the AAU and High School Level. Coach Skierka has coached 76 players who ended up playing college basketball out of his program. He focuses on fundamentals of the game, believes that every player is a basketball player and not a position. His big men have the green light to bring the ball up the floor and shoot the outside jumper. In today's game a lot of program's focus on winning, Skierka focuses on what he has to do to get his players to the next level. He has had teams in the late 90's early 2000 ranked as high as number 2 in the nation. Recently he has had teams ranked as high as 8th in the nation. He runs a 5 out offense, looking for mismatches and cutters. He teaches man 2 man defense and will also go over zones. Coach Skierka works great with his players and uses their strengths and improves their weaknesses.
Coach Grant Skierka
Coach G Skierka is the son of Coach Randy Skierka and has been around the game before he could walk. Grant's basketball IQ is off the charts as he sees things and adjusts to them quickly. Coach Grant focuses on the fundamentals of the games. He's always helping players with their shots, moves to the basket and so much more. He was on a coaching scholarship at Doane in 2019-2020 and then transferred to Iowa State. His goal is to become a D1 coach and the way he sees the game it will happen.
Keshawn Lipscomb
Coach Lipscomb is new to the Omaha area. He moved here with his family in March to start a new adventure. This is his first year coaching with Powerhouse hoops but he has been coaching AAU as well as Middle and High School in Tennessee and Kentucky for the last 5 years.
As a coach, he believes in having players and teams who play defense, can score from all levels and play position less basketball. He puts a big emphasis on that because that is where the game is going. We will win games, we will have fun but most importantly he will do everything he can to help his players get to the next level if that is what they desire.
